Transparent umbrella

I love Japanese transparent umbrellas. One of the things I like the most about their design is that you can see through them; something very useful if you are in a rush, walking towards the wind and you have to tip the umbrella so you don’t get wet.

Hasn’t it happened to you sometimes that with a normal umbrella you have to tilt it up to see where you are walking to? If you are riding a bicycle, as you go faster than walking, it’s almost indispensable to use a transparent umbrella if you don’t want to ride blindly Here is a demonstration video:

Rejoice: Hostess bars confirmed for Yakuza 4 photo

It’s every young lady’s dream: to leave a life of looking somewhat plain and become a glamorous hostess, all cleavage-y evening dresses and bleach-blond hair, charming lonely salarymen into buying obscenely overpriced drinks. Who wouldn’t want a taste of that life?!

Well, now you too can see what it’s like, because Yakuza 4‘s western release is confirmed to have the hostess training minigame included in the final product.

But wait, didn’t Sega say that it was essentially impossible for us to understand hostess bars? That’s the reason they gave for cutting them out of Yakuza 3, after all. Is Sega confident that we filthy foreigners will have evolved the capacity to comprehend that content by spring 2011?

Or perhaps it’s because the bars aren’t being cut this time because they’re key to one of the lead character’s story arcs, making a clean excision impossible? Hmmm.

Either way, we seem to be getting to a more complete product this time! Yay! Now check below for a video of a veteran hostess training a pair of real-life girls as they audition to become in-game hostesses. Really.

Japanese Ads: Amiroquai’s Virtual Insanity Cup Noodle

Here’s an interesting commercial by Nissin whereby you get to see Jay Kay from the British band Jamiroquai singing a modified version of their hit song “Virtual Insanity” and halfway switching to singing about the yummy cup noodles ^^.
I feel old knowing that I was groovin to the beats of “Virtual Insanity” more than 10 years ago.

Mind your cell phone manners on the Seibu Shinjuku train photo

Cell phones are pretty much a necessity in today’s world. Could imagine a day without yours? Honestly, it would kind of suck. There’s a downside to everyone and their grandmother having a cell phone, though. Annoyances; high volumes of annoyances at that. Some people just don’t know when to shut the hell up while on their damn bluetooth headset or whatever and allocate respect to those around them. On numerous occasions, I’ve encountered people acting so inconsiderate on their phones in public that I have almost resorted to violent actions. Almost. I’m keen enough to realize when I’ll get my ass beat down; so I wouldn’t take the risk.

Having this mentality about proper cell phone etiquette in public, I read this story today and nearly applauded one man’s retaliation to someone who presumably went too far with their level of cell phone-rudeness. Of course, this particular story comes from Japan where the number of people constantly on cell phones is freaking insane. Remember that scene in Durarara!! when all the Dollars members’ ring tones go off at the same time? Yeah, it’s just like that.

Yesterday morning, by the time the Seibu Shinjuku train hit  the Takadanobaba station, one of the passengers was fitting to get hit themselves.

According to police, 49-year-old Hiroshi Matsukawa had warned a fellow passenger to obey the mobile phone manner rules while the two were riding the train. The man reportedly talked back to him, causing Matsukawa to get angry and punch him in the face when they both got out at the next station, witnesses said. After being punched, the man teetered on the edge of the platform and his arm was broken by a train passing through the station.

This Matsukawa fellow is a real badass. When authorities tried to get to the bottom of the situation, Matsukawa bluntly told them, “I warned him and he complained back at me. That really pissed me off.

Rock on, Matsukawa-san. Rock on.

Izaya hates annoying people with cell phones, too.
